Former Everton midfielder Don Hutchison has admitted that he cannot get his head around why Ross Barkley and his camp are trying to instigate a move away from Goodison Park.
Manager Ronald Koeman stated numerous times throughout the summer that the England international would leave Goodison Park after failing to agree a new contract.
As it stands, though, with two weeks left to go until the transfer window slams shut, the 23-year-old remains at the Merseyside club.
Tottenham Hotspur have been favourites to land the midfielder’s signature, but the Daily Mail speculates that a move could fall through, as the player is facing three months on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.
From Hutchison’s point of view, he believes that Barkley should focus on trying to revive his career at Everton.
The midfielder faces a battle for a starting spot this season following the summer arrivals of Davy Klaassen and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Hutchison told talkSPORT:
“Gylfi Sigurdsson is a terrific buy and he’s an upgrade on Ross Barkley. I think the boy has hit a crossroads in his career; it doesn’t have to be a move for him. In trying to move away from Everton I think Ross Barkley and his agent have played the worst poker hand in the world.
“I don’t see him going into Manchester City’s first XI or Tottenham’s first XI, so I don’t know why he just doesn’t knuckle down and focus on playing well and getting back into Everton’s first team, because he’s got the talent.”
